Discretionary Funds
The Discretionary Fund is a small amount of money that coalition members can apply for activities that do not require a larger grant. Discretionary Funds cannot be used for projects that are already funded by a coalition Wellness Grant. The funding should be used to support one of the wellness priorities:
Healthy Eating
Physical Activity
Tobacco and Vape Free living
Injury Prevention
Mental Health Promotion
Child and Youth Development
Healthy Environments
Health and Literacy
Amount Available
Up to $100 per organization/group per year.
Examples of How the Money Can Be Used (Other items will be considered)
Healthy Snacks for community wellness events like walks or fun days (non-fundraising event).
Water, where there is no safe drinking water e.g. boil water order in effect.
Garbage bags and safety items for community clean-up.
Participant transportation, childcare, or respite to attend a community wellness activity.
Promotion of a wellness event.
Workshop materials or small sports/games equipment.
How to Apply
Complete the Discretionary Fund application form.
Apply from April to February.
Receive approval before purchasing items.
Purchase items and submit receipts after your event, and no later than March 10th. The funding is cancelled if receipts are not received by then.
Funds are issued after receipts are received.
