The Wellness Coalition - Avalon East is one of six wellness coalitions in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The coalition consists of community groups, schools, local government, non-government agencies and others interested in promoting wellness and improving the health and well being of people in the Avalon East Region.

The Avalon East Region includes the St. John's and Mount Pearl metropolitan areas, Bell Island, Conception Bay South, the Southern Shore to St. Shotts, and Torbay to Portugal Cove.

The Coalitions provide leadership, coordination and support for local wellness initiatives. They build partnerships by bringing together individuals, groups and organizations interested in working together on common wellness issues in their local regions. Activities may include advocating for healthy public policy, providing community grants to enhance local wellness projects, or developing and delivering community wellness programs.

 

Coalition Leadership

The Wellness Coalition-Avalon East is managed by a Steering Committee. It is responsible for the Coalition's broad vision, action priorities and budget. The Steering Committee includes representatives from Eastern Health and community groups.

The coaliton focuses on eight areas of wellness. These are:

  • Child and Youth Development
  • Health and Literacy
  • Healthy Environments
  • Mental Health Promotion

To promote wellness in the Avalon East region through community collaboration, awareness, and action.
